Description of Services
INITIAL CONSULTATION
The 90-120 minute initial consultation involves a thorough physical examination of the body, detailed medical and family history, and inquiry into subtle physical metabolic processes & mental clarity. Traditional Chinese Medicine utilizes the pulses on the wrist and observation of one’s tongue as important diagnostic tools. The pulse quality and tongue color offer insight into the individual’s specific disharmonies causing unwanted symptoms. The pulse and tongue will be examined upon the initial visit and will be closely monitored for change with each subsequent visit. A TCM diagnosis is made and dietary and herbal recommendations are prescribed to balance the system. Stretching, strengthening, and/or breathing exercises may be taught to alleviate pain, reduce stress, and increase mobility. Treatments such as acupuncture, moxabustion, and cupping may also be recommended based on the type of problem.
ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a 5,000 year-old branch of holistic Chinese medicine that has been used to help millions of people find health and wellness by activating the natural, self-healing abilities of the body.
Acupuncture is the insertion of very thin needles in specific points on the body to balance the flow of the body’s energy (Qi).
Acupuncture needles are very thin, thereby permitting a nearly painless insertion. You may feel some heaviness, distention, or tingling around the needle.
MOXABUSTION
Moxabustion utilizes a specific herb (Ai Ye) to warm acupuncture points. Moxa may be performed with or without acupuncture. A moxa stick is held over the acupuncture point until a warm sensation is perceived. This treatment is especially beneficial for certain types of pain, diarrhea, stiff joints, and infertility.
CUPPING
Cupping is a Traditional Chinese treatment that uses suctioned glass cups on the skin. Cupping is excellent for improving circulation and reducing muscle spasms and pain. This treatment is also traditionally used to improve the body’s ability to ward off a cold and expel phlegm once a cold has set in.
Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine
Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine has been in use for over 5,000 years. There are over 7,000 herbs identified and about 400 of these are commonly used in the U.S. Herbal formulas treat a variety of ailments and are an essential adjunct to any acupuncture treatment. Herbal & nutritional supplements and subtle changes in your diet can help alleviate or eliminate your ailment. An herbal & dietary prescription will be formulated specifically for your needs.
